311 Data Standardization Project

Part of the FIU Metropolitan Center's Cyberinfrastructure Initiative

Project Overview

The 311 Data Standardization Project is central to the Policy Information Hub. It focuses on aggregating and standardizing 311 service request data from multiple cities, making it accessible for analysis, research, and policymaking.

The standardized 311 data is critical for understanding how different cities respond to service requests, allowing policymakers and analysts to compare and evaluate city services more effectively. The project contributes significantly to public policy research by providing clean, comparable datasets that can inform decisions about urban services, citizen engagement, and municipal performance.

Role of 311 Data in Policy Information Hub

311 service request data forms the backbone of our efforts to standardize administrative datasets in the Policy Information Hub. By offering a unified format for 311 data, we enable researchers and policymakers to gain insights into public services across different regions. This data helps in identifying trends, challenges, and opportunities for improvement in city services.

The standardized data is used by various stakeholders, including city planners, public policy experts, researchers, and non-profits, to assess the effectiveness of municipal services and to drive evidence-based policy interventions.

Below are interactive 311 service request dashboards for each standardized city. These dashboards offer real-time data visualization to track service requests, monitor response times, and analyze city services across different sectors.

Future Plans and Collaboration

The 311 Data Standardization Project is continuously expanding to include more cities and provide even more detailed insights. As part of the Policy Information Hub, we invite researchers, policy professionals, and cities to collaborate with us. Our goal is to improve the quality and availability of public data to drive more effective public services.

If you are a city official, researcher, or public policy expert interested in collaborating or accessing the 311 standardized data, please reach out to us. Together, we can create a data-driven future for public services.
